Hip Hope and Hype interviews Artist Yung Finn | @yungfinn

What’s going on Yung Finn? Please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us where you’re from.
Wassup everybody! It’s Yung Finn and I’m from Hagerstown, MD!

What was life like growing up in your city?
I actually grew up in a pretty small town called Hancock, MD. There wasn’t really a whole lot to do so you pretty much had to entertain yourself. I spent a lot of time skateboarding around town, playing soccer, and playing video games. I was with my friends a lot too. Once I got into middle school I was rarely home anymore.

What made you decide music was your passion?
I remember when the very first ipod touch came out. I begged and begged my parents to get me one but they didn’t believe I’d ever use it, or it’d be one of those things you use for a couple of days and get bored of. But I convinced them to get me one for Christmas and I still have that same ipod today. I don’t use it anymore but there’s thousands of songs on it and it’s still fully functional. I used to fall asleep with my headphones in all the time just because I loved listening to music. I had played a few instruments growing up but I never really took it seriously. Then in College I had a couple of friends who would make music at the studio on campus and asked me if I wanted to make something so I was like, yea why not. From that very first time recording I made something that everyone in the room was messing with so I was like I’ma just keep doing this.

Tell us about the single you are currently pushing and where it’s available.
My most recent drop was my first ever mixtape, Rich & Lonely, which is an 8 track tape that you can find on all platforms. But this single that I’m about to drop in the next few weeks is called Family. Let me tell you about the day Family was made. So me and my boy are in the studio at our school, and he starts telling me about this guy that he knows in the area that makes beats, they know each other from highschool or something. I was like alright bet tell him to pull up, cuz during this time period we were mainly using youtube beats so I was ready to start moving on to some exclusive, home-grown beats, not no internet shit. He ends up pulling up with a flash drive with over 1,000 beats on it. I’m sitting there like damn ight first one that connects with me we gonna run it. It was a lot of trap, heavy 808’s, real turn up type shit until finally I heard a melody that made me feel like I was by the ocean. I immediately heard the beat and was like yup, that’s the one right there. We made the hook for that song that day and I ended up adding my verses later and we eventually pieced it together to what it is now. Which in my opinion is by far my best release yet. The hook is euphoric and uplifting and the verse’s paint a picture of the struggles one faces, but the results of those struggles is what makes everything worth it.

What else can we catch you doing besides Music?
I snowboard a lot in the winter time, still play soccer pretty often… I’m still in school too so I gotta keep up with my classes. But other than that making music. Making music, school, and shit that kills time is what my day consists of.

What’s next for you?
Hopefully selling some records.

What’s your definition of Grynd?
Getting up everyday and doing MORE than what you HAD to do that day.

Where can we keep up with you online?
Yung Finn everywhere.
