Hip Hop and Hype’s exclusive interview w/ artist SamoMillion | @samomillions

What’s going on SamoMillion? Please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us where you’re from.
All my kings and Queens say Yooooo. I go by the name of SamoMillion from the Lil’ Haiti neighborhood in Miami, Florida.

What was life like growing up in your city?
Oh man it’s tough this neighborhood is not for the faint of heart. It’s like a jungle out here folks living in survival mode. Never showing a hungry man your plate attitude. You see all of those exotic things you see and know about Miami in the movies are on the other side of the bridge. Where I’m from everyday is a crime scene. Police questioning, stopping and frisking you when we are out late night. The accusations of criminal activities just because, of the area we are raised in.

What made you decide music was your passion?
Right after the day my Dad got deported back to Haiti. I had a notebook where I use to write everything that I seen, been threw, even how my day went. It was like a journal per say little did I know that I was teaching myslef to write songs. I used to read it front of my friends and some of my entries would rhyme somehow. And they where the ones that said “Yo you sound like you rapping.”

Tell us about the single ‘Lotto’ you are currently pushing and where it’s available.
My first release for 2020 is my single titled “Lotto” of my EP “Chasing Freedom” that is in the works. The energy behind this song is the feeling and emotion about a finally finding the women of your dreams. You see in this day and age it’s hard to find the right companion. It’s like winning the ”Lotto” it’s one and a million Chance. So the feeling of the song is that adrenaline rush that you would get if you ever won the lottery.

My song “Lotto” is out on all your favorite streaming platforms.

What else can we catch you doing besides Music?
I enjoy giving back to my community and leaving a mark in my hood as someone who found a change. I’m writing and developing my own sitcom or web series. I’ll have way more details later in my career.

Tell us the origin behind your name.
The name “Samo” is from a African movie I watched years ago when I was in middle school. Samoa was a leader of small African tribe. He was the youngest, strongest and the most positive warrior. My best friend said man that guy reminds me a lot of you. The way it was spelled was Samoa. I removed the letter “A” out and ran with the name Samo. And coincidentally my last name is Sam. Now the “Million” part came years later from helping out the homeless in my hood. You see a lot of these so called hood rappers would come into my hood. And act like they where here to help the homeless. But, it was just to film it and post it on social media just for views and likes. A wonderful homeless gentleman approached me and said ”man your not like the others your one and a million“. You genuinely out here helping us out.

So after that day and discussion is when I put it my purpose and stage name together “SamoMillion”.

What’s next for you?
What ever God has a in store for me and my team. We just want to keep creating great emotions thru our music. And be out here touching the people thru our art. I believe there is no limit in what we can or can’t do.
